Looking for something to do in Quebec City during the month of August? Here’s a quick list of major events, shows and festivals taking place during that time.
During the summer, there is always something to do when you are visiting or living in beautiful Quebec City. Quebec now hosts many shows at the Videotron Centre, festivals throughout Old Quebec and major events that you won’t want to miss.
Here is a list of what to do in Quebec City in August.
I recently discovered another festival just next to Quebec City, the Festivent Levis. This unique event offers 5 nights with international artists (in 2016 it was The Offspring, Three Days Grace, Veronique Dicaire, Walk Off The Earth and Life In Colour Kingdom were the performing artists). This year the Festivent Levis takes place from August 2nd through August 6th and will be hosting the following artists (list of the 5 headers).
In addition, this festival offers more than 30 activities for families with young and older children such as small farm, inflatable games, soccer bubble, water games and much more. So grab your friends and time to discover the Festivent Levis.
One Republic at the Videotron Centre
Since the opening of the Videotron Centre back in September 2015, many artists and events have performed in this arena. Luckily for fans, OneRepublic is stopping by on August 9, 2017! The show is set to start at 7 PM with the first act being Fitz and The Tantrums as well as James Arthur. Enjoy the show!
New France Festival
This festival takes place in the heart of Quebec City during 5 days in the beginning of August. Every year, the New France Festival celebrates the arrival of the Europeans on America’s soil. Many activities are offered (some are free while others require you purchase a special pass) such as dances, parades, variety of shows, street entertainment and much more. Take a stroll down the 17th and 18th Century and check it out from August 9 to 13, 2017.
Loto-Quebec International Fireworks Competition
Every year this event takes place over the St-Lawrence river right between Quebec City’s Old Port and Levis whether its good or bad weather and takes place from August 9 to 23 2017. The Loto-Quebec International Fireworks Competition is presented on Wednesday and Saturday nights and each show has a unique theme so you will want to see them all. Fun fact? It is totally free!
Keith Urban at the Videotron Centre
The last time he came to Quebec City was July 10, 2015 at the Quebec City Summer Festival and fans were left in awe of his performance on the Plains of Abraham. This year, get the chance to see Keith Urban once more (or for the first time!) since he is scheduled to perform at the Videotron Centre on August 13, 2017 at 7:30 PM with first act being the James Barker Band. Don’t miss your chance to see their latest tour: ripCORD WORLD TOUR 2017.
Quebec City Celtic Festival
The Quebec City Celtic Festival is to celebrate the Breton, Irish and Scottish communities and their ties to the past. After all, some of us are from Europeen descent. This festival is also ideal to share the culture of dance, music and traditions with others. So grab you kilt and join in on the fun from (dates to be confirmed).
Want to challenge yourself? Then you might want to participate in the Kilt Run which you can walk or run for either 5 km or 10 km. It makes for a great activity to do with friends and family with children who are 12 years and older.
Quebec’s Beerfest (Festibiere de Quebec)
This festival first started 8 years ago and has gained much popularity since, which helped to spawn 2 more editions: Oktoberfest (in October) and Celebrates St-Patrick (in March). The original edition is the one that takes place during the month of August. In this case, the Quebec’s City Beerfest is set to take place at the Old Port from August 17 to 20, 2017 and always offers a great view. With more than 80 exhibitors, culinary demonstrations, food & beer and mixology bar, you are bound to discover some new favourites you will want to bring home with you.
Bruno Mars at the Videotron Centre
After performing at the Quebec City’s Summer Festival in 2013, Bruno Mars is set to perform at the Videotron Centre on August 24, 2017 at 8 PM. The artist announced his upcoming tour back in November 2016 and one of his many stops is to Quebec City, much to the delight of his fans. Don’t miss your chance to see Bruno Mars 24k Magic World Tour.
Quebec City’s Wine Festival
Fans of wine won’t want to miss this unique event, after all it takes place only once every two years in Quebec City. Discover the wine festival from August 31 to Septembre 3, 2017, whether you are new to this world or an avid consumer you are sure to find something your tastebuds will love.
I hope you will get the chance to enjoy at least one of these events, they are definitely worth the detour!
