Resistance – And Then, We Built New Forms
From May 1st to June 3rd, 2014, the Manif d’art 7 invites visitors to embark on an art itinerary and to participate in activities inspired by the theme Resistance – And Then, We Built New Forms, chosen by the curator Vicky Chainey Gagnon. By adding the satellite activities to the official selection, the biennial gathers over 120 artists, spread out over 3 patways in Quebec City, Levis and Wendake.
Espace 400e Bell, located in Quebec City’s old port, is the main venue for this year’s event, promising excellent visibility for contemporary art. Thirty-six artists are presenting several never before seen works.
In addition to exhibitions, the official program of the Manif d’art offers conferences, performances, master classes as well as guided tours for the general public and school groups. In partnership with the Visual Arts School of Laval University, Manif d’art will be pleased to welcome Alain-Martin Richard, a pioneer of Quebec visual art, as a professor and lecturer. What’s more, local organizations have programmed a host of satellite activities: awards, launches, projections, an auction, live radio broadcasts, exhibitions, etc.
The inaugural event of Manif d’Art 7 in Quebec City will be held on May 3rd, 2014 from Regart Lévis at 10:45 am. The finish line is at the Cercle restaurant in Quebec City from 22:30 for the opening night.
