Being passionate about hockey, Quebec citizens want a team of the National Hockey League returns for many years. To be able to seriously consider hosting an NHL team in Quebec City, the construction of a new arena was necessary. In 2009, the group “J’ai ma place” managed to convince the Quebec City’s mayor Régis Labeaume to take the challenge. Finally, March 25th, 2012, Quebec City and Quebecor have sealed the deal and the construction was started September 2012.

The Videotron’s grand opening took place on September 3rd, 2015. The opening celebrations that extended over three weeks have been marked by an impressive program including a Metallica show, a Madonna concert, and RBO show in addition to allow hundreds of thousands of people to visit for free the premises.

The new ice was inaugurated by our junior major local hockey team the Remparts with a match scheduled September 12, 2015, preceded by a tribute to the Nordiques. Several former Nordiques players have been part of the party. Quebec Bulldogs, Aces and Citadels were also honored.
