Sports fans will be enjoying top-level hockey at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey pre-tournament game at the Videotron Center on September 8th.
In recent years, Quebec City has host preseason NHL games each fall. This year, the formula will be somewhat different. The crowd at the Videotron Centre will be able to watch an intense duel that will prepare two of the 8 teams for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
There had been no World Cup of hockey since 2004, when Canada had won the honors. In order to gain popularity around the world, 2016 will mark the return of the world cup of hockey by holding the prestigious competition in Toronto, from September 17th to October 1st, 2016.
The participating countries are Canada, Russia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden and the United States. Two other teams will be a European selection, with the exception of Russia, Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic and a selection of the best NHL North American prospects under 23 years old.
The Quebec City training camp will take place from September 4th to 5th, 2016. The Videotron Centre will host the North American team comprised of the best NHL players of 23 years old and under from Canada and the United States, led by the Oilers Director Peter Chiarelli and the Red Wings Director Stan Bowman as well as the Europe Team, formed by the best European players whose country is not represented in the World Cup of Hockey.
Meanwhile, Team Canada will practice in Ottawa Canadian Tire Centre and will face the United States in a World Cup of Hockey pre-tournament game on September 9 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.
It is then at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey pre-tournament game at the Videotron Center that we will have the possibility to admire the prowess of promising young players like Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel, Alex Galchenyuk and Nathan MacKinnon and major recognized players such as Anze Kopitar Marian Gaborik and Jaroslav Halak Zdeno Chara.
A second pre-tournament game of the World Cup of Hockey will be held in Montreal on September 11th.
